1. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
As a fan of crime stories and shows and also Sherlock Holmes, this was the bomb. I've never read any Sherlock Holmes stories before and have only watched the movies but I have to admit that the book is much interesting than the movies. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, my salutes to you. I really enjoyed reading it and finished it in a few days. This is definitely one of the recommendations I would make to a crime fan.
What is it about: Sherlock Holmes, a detective based in the olden times, takes on cases that are indifferent and interesting. Sherlock is eccentric and the way he thinks and acts is interesting yet bewildering to others.
2. The Five People You meet In Heaven - Mitch Albom
Everyone was raving about this a year ago or maybe two and I didn't want to read it because too many people were on it. So I decided to wait for the hype to die down before purchasing this. And I have to say, I didn't regret it. I loved this story. I teared. It was a very inspiring story and it taught me one thing - no matter how small a thing it may seem to you, it may seem like a great deal to others. Even something small, like offering a little help to a stranger would mean the world to them. It's a very refreshing read, considering that very few authors could write such stories.
What is it about: A maintenance guy working at an old entertainment park dies from saving a young girl when the ferris wheel malfunctioned and crashed. He was then brought to heaven where he meets five people whom he has met when he was alive and others whose lives and dreams intersected with his life.
3. Remember Me? - Sophie Kinsella
I've read a lot of Sophie Kinsella's books, mostly the Shopaholic series which I enjoyed because I am somewhat a shopaholic and could relate a bit to how the character felt in the books. Anyways, this book is totally different and not based on the Shopaholic stories. It's suitable for people who're into love stories.
What is it about: A twenty-eight-year-old woman who woke up one day and finds herself with perfectly straight teeth, toned body and was in a hospital with a branded bag. She realised she has lost her memory and all she could remember was being twenty-five and drinking with her best friends. She struggles as she gets back to work, realising that her best friends, who were working in the same company, were shunning from her and making fun of her. Eventually, she couldn't get back her memory that was lost but found the perfect guy and got back her best friends.
4. The Time Keeper - Mitch Albom
Another incredible book by Mitch Albom that totally blew me away. It's amazing how he could write such stories that have such meaningful lessons behind them. Although this book doesn't has as much hype as the previous book I mentioned and 'Tuesdays with Morrie' which I'm dying to purchase and read it, it's still as good as the previous book I mentioned. And I promise that you wouldn't be disappointed.
What is it about: A guy, who invented measurement of time, was punished by the gods after he has died to be the time keeper. His task was to listen to the world, saying how they wished they had more time and to pick two out of the whole world and teach them how important time is. In the end, he selected a young girl and a man who was dying of an illness and saved them from killing themselves. He taught them the importance of life and of time.
I'm sorry if my description were not good enough but.. oh well, I love these 4 books and I think it's money well spent. Probably it might be a little expensive but I always feel that investments on real books are the best because it feels good to hold on to a physical book and flip through the pages with the smell of ink on them as compared to ebooks where you read them on the screens of devices. I hope that traditional books would last because the advancement in technology has caused more book stores to close down due to the drop in sales of books. So, buy books to give your support!
