Finally, my FYP officially ended last night. With a 'ding'! We weren't shortlisted, sadly. But it was the only presentation whereby I had fun. The first time I did something embarrassing during a presentation but of course I didn't regret.
These few nights, or maybe even weeks, have been tough. I struggled with work and overwhelming thoughts that come at night. Sometimes, a voice would shout at me in my head. (no joke. I might just be crazy.) It was crazy, really. All the workload and non-ending thoughts along with late nights made me so pissed off with everything easily. I tried to make things better by having sweet drinks every day. But it only worked, for awhile. And after that I'm back to my old grumpy self who's just so sensitive to every single thing like a pregnant woman who has raging emotions.
I've probably been like that since a very long time. Maybe since I've start to know things. I am patient with friends but I always flare up at the people closest to me and that's something I hate myself the most. I've tried, you know, just keeping quiet and not say anything mean when someone makes me angry. But in the end, the person who's making me angry will just go from bad to worse and I'll just keep it all in till I'm with someone close, I will go off like a bomb, destroying everything in its path. And yes, sometimes it gets terrible, cos we'd quarrel. But thank goodness things will be fine after that.
Anyways, back to the topic of work. So to help those out there who're struggling with work, I've come up with a list of things you can do, to reduce stress level. Probably works for some only anyways.
1. Take a break.
If you've been staring at your computer for hours trying to get your work done, please, have a break. Read a magazine. Take a nap for an hour. Have a cuppa tea or coffee. (Please not too much! Research has shown that a cuppa coffee a day is good but more than that might result to cancer.) Wash your face. Have a walk downstairs or at a park. It's always good to go away from your electronic devices after being with one for hours to relax yourself and calm your mind down.
This method is good for me because when I spend a lot of time on my laptop using Photoshop to make advertisement mock-ups, I'd be at it for like hours. Sometimes up to 8 hours. It'll make my eyes itchy and sometimes they'll hurt, so I take a short nap or just be away from my laptop and look at the scenery outside. Eye drops can be useful if you're in school, at the office or outside. But remember, buy the right eye drops. Do not mix the ones suitable and non-suitable for contact lenses. And make sure that you do not use eye drops that are non-suitable for contact lenses 30 minutes before and after you put on and take out your lenses.
2. Have sweet stuff.
Research has proven that having sweet stuff releases endorphin which makes us happy. Which is why I like having sweet drinks every day. (Like Ribena, Starbucks' Chocolate Chip Cream, Coffee Beans' Hot Vanilla or Double Chocolate, orange juice, coke, etc) And sometimes, sweets and chocolates. Anyways, my favourite chocolate is actually Fererro Rocher cos I love chocolates and peanuts and it's the only brand that matches these two ingredients perfectly and according to my taste! (I'm really picky when it comes to chocolates, oops.)
I feel really satisfied after having any of these and I'd get motivated to do work again after that. No joke. I know it may sounds stupid to some of you but hey, this works for me and it's just a suggestion for you guys to follow!
3. Talk to someone.
Talking to someone, spilling your troubles and problems out, it'll definitely make you feel better. But please, choose someone that is willing to listen to your problems instead of someone who'd proceed to their own life stories and not bothering to listen to yours or give you any advice. These kind of people are just.. not the right people. However, if you don't feel any better after talking to someone, maybe you chose the wrong person or maybe you just need another person to listen to you.
I choose the people I tell my feelings to carefully cos sometimes some people are suitable to be told about some situations and some are not. What I've learned is that, sometimes, your boyfriend may not be the best person to be your listener cos in the end, guys can't understand girls' thinking and it'll just piss me off worse than before.
4. Blog it.
Probably not suitable for those who dislike writing or blogging. And suitable for those who can't say enough cos of the word limit on Twitter. I do that, when I'm like really emotional and no matter how I say, the people around me wouldn't understand and in the end get frustrated cos I can't get my point across and neither can he or she, which is why sometimes I have emotional posts here.
I feel sorry when I blog emotional posts probably because I'll affect some others' moods and make them emotional. (if there are even any readers, haha!)
5. Cry, shout, punch something/someone.
These methods are good, sometimes. When thoughts are too overwhelming at night, I'd just cry and cry till I'm so tired that I go to sleep straight. Shouting has been proven to be effective through research. (sadly, I've not done much of this else people might think I'm crazy.) And of course punching or hitting something/someone. I'd rather hit a person than something cos it'll hurt you lesser, haha. But of course, please choose someone who's willing to let you hit and don't go on the streets randomly to hit someone and pick up a fight. Not worth it to get beaten up when your mood is already bad enough!
6. Watch a funny show/video.
Go on Youtube, turn your television on or go find something funny to read, watch, listen to. You'd definitely feel better. For me, I'd watch entertainment shows that are funny. I'd instantly laugh at something funny even though I'm in a bad mood. Which of course, males me feel better.
7. Sing it out, dance with it.
I love this method the most. Sometimes I'd sing to soothing songs/country songs loudly, and sing with emotions, of course. If not it'd be not effective. And after singing that song, I'd feel like my troubles went away with that song. And sometimes, I'd sing and dance along with clubbing songs/dance music/rock songs. I'd go crazy, like really crazy. I'd shake my head if I'm sitting down and dance like mad if I'm standing up. Ask my close friends and you'd know that I can be really crazy. (Although to many, I'm like super quiet and don't talk.)
8. Have a short getaway.
If you have a weekend to spare, go somewhere near like Genting (to gamble and for their cooling weather) or Johor (to eat all you want). Bintan and Batam would be perfect for relaxing.
I love getaways. Cos that's when there's no Internet and I can just do things I don't normally do in Singapore cos I'm constantly exposed to the Internet, resulting in me checking my Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and famous blogs.
Alright, the above are the methods commonly used by many and also by me. I hope they're effective in relieving stress for you! Thank goodness the holidays are coming for me cos I can't wait to just get out of Singapore and chill out somewhere! Stay calm and keep being happy. So long, my lovelies! <3 p="p">3>
