There were gunshots. Someone was hot on her heels. Layna ran. Branches, twigs and bushes were scratching against her calves, but she continued running. How long have I been running in the woods? Layna asked herself. Five minutes, maybe ten.
She stopped. She couldn't hear the gunshots anymore. Something must be wrong. She crept quietly. All of a sudden, the gun was fired again. This time, the shooter was nearer to her than before. Layna ducked and she heard a thud. The bullet must have struck a tree, she thought. Just before she managed to stand up, a strong force pushed her right to the ground. She struggled. The shooter, a man, said in a gruff voice, “Where is it? Give it to me now or I'll blow your head to pieces and leave you here, where no one will find you forever!" He was panting heavier than Layna. She estimated that he must be twice her weight. Knowing that she was no match for him, Layna cried, “What are you exactly talking about? I've searched my house inside out, but I found nothing! Nothing at all!" She could feel the gun on her forehead but she still couldn't see how her shooter looked like. She knew she was going to die. He fired. The bullet shot right into her brain. Layna let out a devastating scream.
Layna opened her eyes and find herself staring at a ceiling that was painted baby pink. She was in her own room. She sat up to find that everything was just a dream. She was drenched in cold sweat and panting profusely. The dream seemed so real. She had to do something. Trudging wearily among the pile of blankets on the floor, Layna searched for her phone. She called Mr. Blakely, her boss, immediately when she found her phone. "Hello, Mr. Blakely, I've contracted a really bad flu. Yes, I've went to the doctor. Yeah, the doctor said it would be better if I had a week's leave. Alright, thank you." A minute later, her assistant, Manda, called. "Ms Portman! You're sick? What about the meeting with Mr. Ronald Paul tomorrow for the next season’s fashion show?" "Manda, I've told Mr. Blakely to take over my work for a week. So don't worry about it. Be Mr. Blakely's assistant for the week. Ciao!" Layna hung up before Manda could ask any more questions.
Layna started on her investigation by going through her parents' room. She searched every single corner in the room, every wardrobe and even under the bed. Without knowing why would she even do that, Layna started to knock the wooden plank under the bed to see if there are any hidden compartments. With some luck, she hit a spot and heard a hollow thud. Layna crawled under the bed as she tries to figure out how to open the compartment. After much pushing and knocking, the wooden plank at that spot gave way and in place was an electronic gadget that she had never seen before. It was as big as a mobile phone and had a screen of a mobile phone too. She pressed a button that somewhat seemed like a power button. The screen lit up and showed something that seems like a clue to unlock whatever information this gadget contains. It said," the end of the world ". It was a touch screen gadget and there was a keyboard. She typed 2012. A notice popped out 'Incorrect answer. You have 2 more tries.' Layna panicked. She had to unlock this or she would die 6 days later.
